Create a new Security Role
- In ConnectWise Manage navigate to, System/Security Roles
- Add a new Security Role. I called mine “Datagate API User.”
- Edit the Security Modules for this role. Note the Security Modules listed below allow sync of
customers to Datagate, and export to ConnectWise Multiline. With these minimal privileges, it
is expected the Custom fields, company Type of Datagate will be set up manually by the
administrator
Note: The line highlighted is only required to initialize the integration and can be revoked after the integration is successfully added and tested in Datagate. Please make sure to keep the last column(Inquire Level) to All as shown below:
Create an API member
- In ConnectWise Manage navigate to System/Members
- In the API members tab create a new API member and assign it the Datagate API User role
The API member does not use a ConnectWise license
Create an API key
- Click on the newly created API Member.
- Select the API Keys tab
- Click the New item (+) button.
- In the Description field, type the description for the newly created keys.
- Click Save
- The two API Key are generated and displayed in the Public Key and Private Key field.
- The private key is displayed only at the time it creates. Make a note of it as there is no way to recover after the API Keys tab is closed.
- Connect Datagate and ConnectWise by choosing Settings/ Integrations/ ConnectWise Manage. Enter the following into the Account Details.
- ConnectWise Company name
- Public Key (from above)
- Private Key (from above)
- ConnectWise URL
- Press Save
- Press the button to “Test Account Access”. This tests your connection, checks privileges, creates a “Datagate” Company Type, and custom fields as below.
- Please do not fill out any other part of the ConnectWise Manage screen without advice from your consultant.
Custom Fields
The following custom fields are created when the “Test Account Access” is run.
If the custom fields are not created, the most likely cause is the API member doesn’t have privileges to create them. You can create these fields in ConnectWise yourself.
In ConnectWise, System, Setup Tables. Choose the Category: General, Table: Custom Fields.
Choose the screen: Product Setup, and Pod Description: Overview.
Create the following two Custom fields:
