Creating API user in Autotask:
To add Autotask integration in Datagate, we need to setup an API user in Autotask.
Go to Admin menu > Account Settings and Users
On the ADMIN screen, Account Settings & Users tab, click Resources/Users (HR) section, click Resources/Users
On the RESOURCES screen, click New drop down and click New API User
On the ADD API USER screen
- GENERAL section, Security Level: must be set to API User (system)
- CREDENTIALS section, click Generate Key to generate a random Username (key) and click Generate Secret to generate a random Password(Secret)
- API IDENTIFIER sectiion
Integration Vendor must be selected
Integration Vendor drop down: select Datagate - Online billing and reporting
Make sure to save Username and Password, click Save & Close.
Setting up the Autotask integration in Datagate portal
To configure Autotask integration in DataGate portal:
- Go to Setting > Integration > find Autotask and click Configure.
- Enter the Username (Key) and Password (Secret) which were generated for the API user in Autotask. Once the account is configured, click Details, click Test Account Access and a message should appear in a few seconds (Message: Autotask account information is correct).
Create and Un-Hide the Extra Field
After setting up the integration and before running a customer sync, we need to go back to Autotask and enable an user-defined field. The integration with Datagate may have created it.
To check if the User-Defined field exists,
- Go to Admin > Features and Settings
- Click User-Defined Fields
In the Accounts tab, you should see “Datagate”
If you don’t, please add it as below:
The following will always need to be done, whether you created the User-Defined field yourself or Datagate created it for you.
- Go to Admin > Account Settings and Users > Features and Settings tab > ACCOUNTS & CONTACTS,
- Click Account Categories, click the three lines next to Standard and click Edit,
- On the EDIT ACCOUNT CATEGORY - Standard screen, go to Details tab, SECTIONS & FIELDS section, scroll down to find User-Defined fields > Hidden Fields > Datagate (UDF)
Click the three lines, click Make Field Visible
